Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said issues of security and herdsmen/farmers’ clashes will feature prominently in the 2019 general election, stressing that coordination among security agencies is necessary to achieve durable results.
He said unless care was taken, the spread of false information on the social media could help to compound the country’s security, especially as the 2019 election draws near, adding that the use of under-aged voters was an instance of spread of falsehood though Internet.
Ganduje, who spoke to journalists in Kano recently, said his administration’s offer of grazing reserves for herdsmen was predicated on the fact that the state has abundant grazing areas and dams.
He explained that it was on account of large grazing areas in the middle belt, as well as, clement climate that the problem of herders/farmers clashes is concentrated in the area.
He said: “After identifying five grazing areas in Kano, we have started providing some facilities and discouraging our herdsmen from going outside the state.
“We want to use the Falgore Forest, especially now that security situation has improved. We have designed how to construct some dams. We had to start with feasibility study and that is what we are doing. There are some rivers and dams in the forest, which we have to harness to provide some facilities for herdsmen. That is why we are inviting them to come.”
