The Department of State Services (DSS), has again warned against plans by some persons and groups to exploit some fault lines to cause ethno-religious violence in some parts of the country.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service, Dr. Peter Afunanya, disclosed that the latest development on the alert indicated desperate efforts by some individuals and groups to subvert public peace and order.
It had on January 11, 2021 alerted of plans by some elements working with external forces to incite religious violence across the country, listing Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos and Southeast state as major targets of mayhem.
The DSS said the plan was to cause inter-religious conflicts and use their foot soldiers to attack some worship centres, religious leaders and personalities across the country.
Afunanya pointed out that the planners have continued to resort to inciting, unguarded and divisive statements and actions with a view to pit Nigerians against one another and inflame the embers of tribal and religious discord.
SIMILARLY, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has expressed concern over the DSS’s security on purported plans to exploit some fault lines to cause ethno-religious violence in some parts of the country
It appealed to such persons planning to subvert public peace and order in the country to desist from their plot.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja, Spokesman of NSCIA, Mallam Ibrahim Aselemi urged the security apparatus especially the DSS to arrest enemies of the state and prosecute them.
