EX-Militants of the defunct Bakassi Strike Force (BSF) have called on Federal Government to absorb them into its ongoing amnesty programme.
The former militants, who surrendered their arms in November 2018 to Federal Government through the military and embraced amnesty, said there was need to engage them in the amnesty programme and compensate them for the sacrifice they made for peace to reign.
One of the defunct BSF Commanders, Victor Benjamin, who made the call at the weekend, while receiving bags of rice as COVID-19 palliative from the Ministry of Niger Delta, said: “The situation is very sad and needs to be arrested. The Federal Government should take over the situation so that generations yet unborn wouldn’t choose the path of arms struggle.
“We plead with the Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to look into the situation and help us tell President Muhammadu Buhari that the issue of Bakassi needs to be addressed”.
Benjamin, who spoke on behalf of their former Leader, Benjamin Eneh, thanked the Minister of Niger Delta for recognising them.
Former Deputy Speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Otuekong Orok Duke, who presented the palliatives on behalf of the Minister, said he ensured that all 196 wards across 18 local councils of the state benefitted from the relief items.
