Ibadan poly evade ASUP strike

The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, has not joined the ongoing nationwide industrial action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
It was gathered that since 2017, ASUP Polytechnic Ibadan Chapter has no leadership, that accounted for non-compliance with the national body’s directive.
A visit to the polytechnic yesterday showed that the campus was full of the usual hustle and bustle, with students receiving lectures in various classes.
One of the lecturers, Mr. Biodun Akere, said the school calendar was still running, adding that students had been receiving lectures unhindered since the commencement of the second semester of the 2019/2020 session.
Akere said: “Our students are on campus and lecturers have been going to the classrooms to teach. We are not in compliance with the industrial action declared by ASUP. We don’t have elected ASUP union leaders.”
Besides, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of institution, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, told The Guardian that the lecturers were not on strike, saying: “Our lecturers are not on strike. We are running the semester as it should go.”
